This past weekend included a lot of revelations for MCU fans, as many rumored cast members were confirmed and their roles in various films were announced. For Guardians of the Galaxy 2, it was confirmed that Kurt Russell and Sylvestor Stallone are appearing in the movie. Russell’s role was revealed to not only be Ego, The Living Planet, but that he will be the Star-Lord’s father. However, Stallone’s role in the film remains a mystery.

With another film, it would be possible that an actor like Stallone would be brought in for a day or two of insignificant filming for the privilege of adding his name to the poster and drawing in a few more audience members. However, the MCU doesn’t usually go for that approach. In fact, director James Gunn explained to Cinemablend that Stallone’s role definitely has purpose.

It’s a very, very key, important role. It’s not a huge role. He’s a great and key supporting actor.

Sometimes, in the MCU, a key supporting character can be a very significant character in a later movie. All signs, so far, point to him being a Ravager. However, we wonder if he might be Charlie-27, a very muscular character genetically engineered to live on Jupiter who has shown up in many Guardians of the Galaxy stories. It would be nice to see Sly show up as a good guy.

What do you think his short, but important role may be? Let us know in the comments!
