With pre-production already well underway, we’re starting to get few more soundbites from the Russo Brothers concerning the casting of Avengers: Infinity War and its as-yet-untitled follow-up.

Ever since their now much quoted “67 characters” claim, it’s been implied that the next two Avengers’ outings will be even weightier, star-studded ensemble movies compared to this year’s Captain America: Civil War. Speculation remains rife however as to what point exactly certain characters are due to make their cinematic debuts (if at all).

In regards to Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, whose casting was announced at San Diego ComicCon back in July, Joe Russo had this to say:

“It’s an incredible piece of casting. You couldn’t ask for better… Not only is she an amazingly talented actor but she’s a wonderful human being. We’re really looking forward to the opportunity of re-teaming with her…”

It’s perhaps worth pointing out that this doesn’t necessarily point to Captain Marvel’s involvement in Avengers: Infinity War as a forgone conclusion. His comments could simply be an acknowledgment of her necessary inclusion by 2019 and point to Carol Danvers debuting in her own movie prior to an appearance in the fourth (and final?) Avengers team-up.

While some fans continue to be optimistic, we’ve also yet to hear explicit confirmation as to whether either film will include any of the MCU’s TV division heroes, namely Netflix’s The Defenders or ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Anthony Russo dodged committing to any such eventuality, but his following comments certainly don’t appear to rule them out.

“We do consider everyone…We don’t want to get too specific about what’s going to happen with these movies. We want these movies to be a surprise for audiences.”

For the directors to be side-stepping these kinds of questions is to be expected at this point as certain casting decisions are still likely to be very much in flux. However, their responses do at least point to them keeping an open mind in regards as to who’ll be making that final, crucial roll-call in Phase 3’s climatic two-part conclusion.
