First off, let me preface this by saying that we can’t confirm yet if this artwork is genuine or not. So while we’re going to report on it because of what it implies (and how cool it looks), we remain skeptical until this comes from a more trusted source. You can check out the image below.
The biggest debate we’ve had over here while looking at this image was whether or not that is actually Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor. The Editor-in-Chief of our site, Nicole, isn’t entirely sure it is Hemsworth, and if it is, it’s clearly a crap Photoshop job, while Charles, our Supercut Guru thinks the guy might be Asian. As for me? I’m leaning towards it being a shotty Photoshop job on a real picture of Hemsworth. Either way, the biggest hit to its legitimacy is how weird Thor looks. On the flip side, Hulk is definitely wearing the same exact armor shown at SDCC this year. You be the judge.
Now onto why this is interesting if it is legit: Where is Mjolnir? As we all know, the first Thor film involved him getting the weapon stripped from him by Odin as he was banished to Earth to kick-start his Marvel Cinematic Universe origin. During that film, it seemed pretty clear that only Odin had the ability to take away Mjolnir from Thor. But with Odin MIA as of Thor: The Dark World, it makes us wonder, who was powerful enough to take it away from him this time? Clearly, if he had the weapon he’d be using it in battle as he teams up with Hulk, no? What do you think? Sound off in the comments below!
Thor: Ragnarok, which stars Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Cate Blanchett, and Tom Hiddleston, is directed by the excellent Taika Watiti and is set to hit the big screen on November 3rd, 2017.
