SPOILERS FOR THOR: RAGNAROK AND POTENTIAL INFINITY WAR SPOILERS BELOW, FRIENDS!

Thor: Ragnarok made some huge changes to the overall landscape of the Thor mythos and world of Asgardians, the same way Captain America: The Winter Soldier turned Cap’s world upside down, in the form of the destruction of Mjolnir, Asgard and the loss of Thor’s right eye. And while we know Thor gets a new weapon in Avengers: Infinity War thanks to early concept art, the story behind this mysterious axe was still up in the air. That is until new report revealing how Thor’s new weapon comes to be showed up.

The bois at SuperBroMovies are saying that when Thor gets this hammer/axe forged in the film (speculated by fans to be the MCU’s iteration of the axe from the Ultimates or the fabled Jason Aaron weapon Jarnbjorn), it gets forged without any handle, meaning all Thor gets is the blade of the axe without anything to hold it. According to SuperBroMovies, this dilemma gets solved when Groot offers a part of his wooden self to be used as the axe’s handle.

We can’t confirm this report but fans who’ve seen the bootlegged version of the Avengers: Infinity War sizzle reel from SDCC know that Thor crosses paths with the Guardians of the Galaxy. On top of that, previous comments by Teenage Groot mo-cap performer Terry Notary say that Groot makes a new friend in this film so the idea that Groot helps Thor out makes sense, to say the least. Personally, I hope this ends up being true. I’m enamored by the idea of Teenage Groot taking a liking to someone he’s never met. It’s a cute quirky way of having these characters from separate worlds form a sweet kinship with one another.
