When we last see Thor, he was hitching a ride with the Guardians of the Galaxy to find his purpose. However, during the recent SDCC panel, it was revealed that Thor: Love and Thunder would release before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which confused some fans. So much so that one of them asked James Gunn directly on his Instagram page. He answered and clarified that Thor: Love and Thunder takes place before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in the timeline.
This means that Chris Hemsworth will not appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but it does indicate that the Guardians will at least make a brief appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder. It’s unknown whether this was always the plan or that the delay with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may have changed it. It could also be that Thor was never meant to tag along with the Guardians for an extended period of time.
