Academy Award-winning actress Tilda Swinton has thankfully played a huge role in the promotion of Doctor Strange, which begins its worldwide run next week. If you haven’t seen her at work, Swinton is a huge personality with unbelievable charisma, making it hard not to want to hear more of what she has to say. Last night she continued the rounds, chatting with Disney yes man Jimmy Kimmel, and may have inadvertently revealed something of interest. If you are spoiler-conscious, be wary, however, I am going in spoiler free and this tidbit doesn’t really and truly spoil much of anything.
Apparently, Swinton’s daughter was a part of the film’s costume department and her son a part of the art department, drawing up concepts to potentially be used in the film. According to the actress, one of her son’s designs made the cut:
“My son, we had this amazing moment one day when I met him for lunch one day in the canteen and I said, ‘What did you do this morning?’ and he said, ‘Made a planet!'” Swinton said. “It’s a planet that, I’ve now seen the movie, and it appears to great effect at the end of the movie.“
Kimmel, who has apparently already seen the movie as a token of appreciation for allowing Disney to fill his show with Marvel promo all the time, confirmed the presence of the planet in the film.
The question that many Doctor Strange fans might be asking is, “Is it really a planet, or is it another dimension, perhaps Dormammu’s Dark Dimension?” Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait to have it answered so all we can do is speculate. While it seems more likely that what we would see is another dimension that could easily take the form of a planet, it’s entirely possible, with so much Cosmic goodness ahead, that we will see Strange, perhaps in his astral form, visit another planet. With sequels the sequels to Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor taking place all across the cosmos and Thanos about to begin his collection of the Infinity Stones, there’s no telling what planet we will be seeing. Thankfully we won’t have long to wait as Doctor Strange will open in a theater near you soon!
