About a week ago, rumors seemed to hint that The Punisher would be a part of Marvel’s Phase Two on Netflix after the success of Daredevil. Even Umberto Gonzalez (@elmayimbe), formerly of Latino-Review, who is one of the most reliable sources when it comes to news regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been teasing something regarding The Punisher.
I got something. Stay tuned. 🙂 https://t.co/HxGoNMZ6eU

As of right now, Marvel Studios nor Marvel Television have commented on bringing The Punisher into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but if they do? There’s a pretty great actor that’s already interested in playing the character.
While speaking with Collider recently, Tom Hardy stated that he’d be interested in playing The Punisher, but that he fears he isn’t big enough.
Collider: I heard Warner Bros. has a few more superhero movies, maybe one or two that they’re developing [Laughs].
HARDY: I want The Punisher… I want The Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something…I don’t know what I want.
You as Punisher could be very interesting.
HARDY: I’m not big enough to be The Punisher, I’m 5’9” [Laughs].
But I actually think that adds to the character.
HARDY: Frank Castle, I would love it. Is that him, isn’t it?
Yeah. It’s Frank Castle.
If you’ll recall, Hardy’s name was thrown around (with pretty much every other big name actor, really) when Marvel was looking to cast Doctor Strange, so they are clearly interested in Hardy.
It’s also worth noting that Marvel has specifically been going after actors with both film and television credits when casting actors for the leads on the Netflix shows. If The Punisher were to head to Netflix, I wouldn’t say Marvel reaching out to Hardy would be out of question. He is considered a big name, but he is also open to doing television work as he’s appeared on Peaky Blinders as Alfie Solomons, and he’s currently attached to star in Taboo, which is an upcoming television mini-series.
As of right now, there are no guarantees that Marvel will bring Frank Castle into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but anything is possible!
