While we can all agree that the casting process for Doctor Strange was exhausting, it was nothing compared to the casting process for the latest Spider-Man reboot. When Sony & Marvel officially announced that they’d partnered together to work on the latest Spidey film, it didn’t take long for fans to start fan-casting actors they’d like to see tackle the role since it was rather clear that Andrew Garfield, star of Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, wouldn’t be returning as the web slinger anytime soon. It was rumored that we’d first see the new Peter Parker in next year’s Captain America: Civil War, before he went on to headline his own solo film the following year, something that seemed like it wouldn’t happen when production on Civil War began in May without any confirmation on a new Spider-Man actor.

Of course, Marvel finally announced Tom Holland as the new web slinger the following month, along with the director of the solo Spider-Man film, Jon Watts. While the list of actors up for the role continued to change over the course of months, Holland’s name remained a constant, proving he’d left some kind of mark on Marvel & Sony, so it wasn’t entirely surprising to see him nail the highly coveted gig. But it looks Holland also got a little help from a certain God of thunder too. In a recent interview with NY Daily News for the upcoming film, “In the Heart of the Sea”, Holland admitted that he’d asked for his co-star Chris Hemsworth to put in a good word for him.

“I emailed him while I was auditioning for the film and said, ‘So can you maybe put in a good word for me?'” the 19-year-old British actor told the Daily News while promoting “In the Heart of the Sea.”

Luckily for Holland, Hemsworth had no problem putting in a good word for him as he was “blown away” by Holland’s work ethic and talent.

“I called the guys at Marvel when they were casting (Spider-Man) and I heard he was in the final handful of guys and said, ‘Look for what it’s worth you’re not going to meet a harder working more appreciative kind of guy,'” recalls Hemsworth, who will soon reprise his role as Marvel’s resident thunder god in “Thor: Ragnarok.”

“I was so blown away by his sort of attitude and work ethic and how good he was,” adds Hemsworth. “But then I said to Tom, ‘I’ve told them that, so don’t prove me wrong.'”

Although Holland is relatively new to Hollywood, he has proven himself to be a talented young actor in films such as The Impossible and How I Live Now. He can next be seen in In the Heart of the Sea, which also stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor), on December 11th, 2015.

Holland will make his debut as Peter Paker in Captain America: Civil War which will hit movie theaters on May 6th, 2016.
