One thing that made the purchase of a Blu-ray from the Marvel Studios’ films special was the fact that they came with the addition of a short film in the form of One-Shots. With Spider-Man: Homecoming just around the corner, we are getting a lot of interviews with people involved with the project, revealing details of the future of the MCU. Homecoming star, Tom Holland, threw in his opinion on what he would want to see happen as a short film in an interview with Uproxx.
“I want to do a short. That’s what I want to do. I want to do a 20-minute short with me and Paul Rudd…”
It would be amazing to see these two meet once again after their encounter from the events in Captain America: Civil War. Especially seeing how Rudd played off of Spidey in the film. A 20-minute short would certainly be very different in comparison to the older One-Shots that were kept brief. This does open up a window that we could see this format return once again, and Holland is hinting at their potential return.
“I think they are planning on doing [one-shots] again. I probably just spoiled a big spoiler. Kevin Feige’s probably going to be furious.”
This is great to hear, as One-Shots were quite missed since the last time we saw them appear, such as the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter shorts, which were used as a jumping off point for the ABC shows. There was a surprise short released last year that was not really part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon, which showed how Thor was spending his time during the events of Civil War. Some did take this as a sign that we could be heading back to the exclusive Blu-ray releases, which may also expand upon the MCU with some film-centric elements.
Maybe we get to see Spidey hanging out with his friends, as each one almost gets close to uncovering his secret identity. Shorts could offer some more moments with villains of the film (if they survive), which would open up possibilities of their direction in sequels. Maybe some hints can be dropped for story lines further down the line with minor characters that would not show up for some time get a chance.
What stories would you like to see told in future MCU shorts? Let us know, in the comments!
