Another day, another new cast update for the currently filming Spider-Man: Homecoming. This one, however, is a bit more surprising than the others as it involves a UFC champion this time around. The folks over at Spider-Man News caught wind that, while on The MMA Hour this afternoon, Tyron Woodley stated that he was set to start work on a Marvel movie in Atlanta this week. And although that isn’t an outright confirmation, Homecoming is the only Marvel title currently filming in Atlanta, making it pretty easy to guess that’s the film he’s talking about.
“I don’t know if I can even say this, but I’m working on a Marvel movie on Thursday in Atlanta”, Woodley revealed.
Now whether this is for a role, or simply for stunts, is unknown at the moment. However, Woodley has experience both as a stunt person, having worked on projects such as Straight Outta Compton and Olympus Has Fallen, and an actor, having landed a role in Kickboxer: Vengeance. (Also of note, according to Spider-Man News, Woodley has a role in the currently filming Fast 8.) Woodley, of course, wouldn’t be the first UFC fighter to work on a Marvel film as Georges St-Pierre famously appeared as Batroc the Leaper in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so although I’d say it’s safe to assume he’s doing stunt work on the film, I wouldn’t be surprised to learn he has a small speaking role within the film as well.
Who could you see Woodley playing? Sound off in the comments below!
Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit movie theaters on July 7th, 2017.
