As if seeking to prove that the people in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films like to speculate about future films as much as those of us who sit in the audience at Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, Vin Diesel dropped a bit of information that seems primed to get the speculation engine churned up. His own speculation engine as well as the fans’.

While speaking to an interviewer from Screen Junkies News in an interview that was posted on Twitter earlier today, Diesel is asked if there will ever be a film with Groot and Spider-Man together to which he replies:

That’s an interesting question. If it’s up to James Gunn, you’re going to see a Groot/Rocket movie after Infinity War. That’s highly possible. We shall see.

Diesel continued, moving from what director James Gunn would maybe like to what it seem the actor himself would like by speculating further about who else you might see Groot palling around with.

I know that there’s somewhere in the universe where you’re going to see Groot and Hulk battle. I know it. Write it somewhere. You’re going to see that poster: Groot vs. Hulk.

Watch for yourself.

But what does that mean exactly?

It’s important to note that in those few words there is very little concrete anything. “If it’s up to James Gunn…” means he doesn’t really know if James Gunn is up for it or not. If it WAS up to Gunn, sure, there would be one. But I believe we all know that things over at the Marvel Studios are manifestly NOT up to James Gunn. And when it comes to Groot/Hulk, Diesel’s “I know that somewhere in the universe…” is said in exactly the way you say a phrase like that when you don’t really KNOW anything…you just HOPE that there is. (Watch the video, you’ll see what I mean.)

The actor may just be having some fun…putting ideas out there…trying to catch James Gunn’s ear or the attention of the folks at Marvel. Or maybe just the fans. OR, maybe he’s just having some fun sitting around speculating like fans do. Just because he’s in it doesn’t mean he can’t be a fan.

Of course, the man has hung out with James Gunn. Worked on his movie. Probably even talked bigger/future plans. Maybe he does, indeed, know something…though it would seem that spilling it on Twitter would be frowned upon!

No matter where this is coming from, it does give one some entertaining food for thought. What are your thoughts? What would be a better pairing: Groot/Rocket (which we’ve already seen) or Groot/Hulk (which we haven’t)? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
