It has become quite apparent that the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War will heavily focus on Thanos’ search for the Infinity Gems, which are scattered across the universe. Since the events of Age of Ultron, one rather important stone has found a new home on earth, the mind stone. As it now sits comfortably on the head of Vision, many started to wonder how the events of Infinity War might impact that character. Given the strong link between him and the character, it would make sense that if Thanos rips it off of his head, it might endanger his life. It seems we do not have to wonder any longer, as some more details have come out in regard to this question.

In an interview with Good Morning America shortly after the trailer was shown during the live-action conference of Disney’s bi-annual D23 expo, the actor playing Vision, Paul Bettany and Scarlet Witch’s Elizabeth Olsen were questioned if his character would be able to survive having the stone removed from his head. Both instantly started doubting that the artificial intelligence was still dependent on the stone, while repeatedly putting in question if the characters’ fate is truly set in stone (literally).

It actually makes sense that the character would no longer require the stone to survive. Ever Ultron, who was created through the mind stone and Stark’s robotics, was able to stay alive without the mind stone being directly attached to him. Moreover, Vision has already spent a lot of time with the stone on his head. We have seen him show quite a lot of affection towards Scarlet Witch in Captain America: Civil War. He also developed as a character since his introduction in Age of Ultron. It is not too surprising that he has developed his own conscience that works independently from that of the stone and would not die just from having it removed. One thing is for sure, as soon as Thanos gets his hands on it, Vision is going to be in quite a lot of trouble.

What are your thoughts on this? How do you think Thanos will get his hands on the mind stone?
