You may have heard of this small Marvel Studios panel that happened on this minor convention called the San Diego Comic Con last saturday, so you might have been as surprised as everyone when the man himself, Kevin Feige, announced the What If…? animated series as a part of the MCU’s phase 4. No further details were given, and we were all left to wonder about what would that mean.
After the panel, Screen Rant got to interview Feige and one of their questions related to What If…? and what we could expect from the show. Without revealing too much, of course, he let out that the show’s first season is going to delve into the 23 films of the Infinity Saga.
Right now, we’re focusing on for the first season, everything you know about the 23 films in the Infinity Saga and adding one twist to them and seeing how everything turns out different.
The idea behind the show is to explore alternative scenarios of some of the most important moments of the MCU. For instance, Feige confirms (as it’d been rumored) that one episode will deal with a scenario where Peggy Carter was the one who took the Super Soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers. Although the quote confirms that the first season will deal with the events of phases one through three, it’s not clear if he meant that each film will get its own twist/episode or if the season will explore key moments of some these films but not necessarily all of them.
As of now, What If…? looks like an ocean of potential and an amazing way of digging deeper into some of the characters and events that shaped the universe thus far. Sounds like it’ll be really fun to see Marvel Studios play with its own history.
